Marie Arago is an American photographer who has lived in Port-au-Prince, Haiti since 2011. Born and raised in California, she studied film but found herself drawn towards the still image and decided to pursue photography. She graduated from the International Center of Photography in 2004 and has since worked as a photographer, educator and producer of photographic workshops around the world. In 2010 she co-founded FotoKonbit, an organization that teaches photography to youth and adults in Haiti and encourages students to use photography to explore and represent their lives, ideas and communities.
Marie’s photographic work is focused on and inspired by cultural identity, religion and history and has been based in Latin American and the Caribbean. She is interested in being part of collaborative and participatory photographic projects.
Marie works as a freelance photographer for non-profit organizations and international publications in Haiti and worldwide.
Marie is a founding member of FotoKonbit.
